From late yesterday evening and through most of the night, it was raining heavily and it was thundering and lightening. With some short breaks, it went on and on and on. It was as if the complete house was shaking. It was impossible to get a proper sleep.
In the news this evening, we saw that parts of Nairobi is flooded.
During our time here, we have seen in the Internet media that parts of Russia have had temperatures around minus 50 degrees, that people have died because of the low temperatures both in Russia, Poland and Ukraine, that several people even in India have died because of low temperatures, and that Italy and southern France have had temperatures up to plus 25 degrees. Even Munich in Germany had above 20 degrees during Christmas.
The following cannot be verified statistically, but people we have been talking to here think that this December has had quite much more rain than what is normal for December. Almost every night, it has been raining heavily. Tropical rain some times with thunder and lightening. Even during some of the days, we have experienced heavy rain showers.
The temperature in the day time is very comfortable. And when the sun is shining, it is hot. For those of you who read our reports from Turkey earlier this year: No, the hot temperature during the day here is not like we had in Turkey. Turkey in August was much hotter. But Side in Turkey is located at the sea level. Eldoret is located more than 2100 metres above the sea level. Not far outside the city, you can be in areas 2700-3000 metres above the sea level. And even in Africa around Equator, the temperature this high above the sea level cannot compete with lower areas. That also means that late afternoons and evenings are quite chilli and you need a jacket.
